2022 - ongoing

Makkumath is a picturesque village perched at 5250 feet in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. Owing to the cultural and religious significance of the town, Makkumath is frequented by tourists. Makkumath is the winter home for the idol from the Tungnath temple every year.

The design and building of the homestay project are envisioned with a conscious effort to bridge the divide created in architectural practices over the decades. The project is a derivative of the research on the traditionally built form, material available, and skill set available in the region. It is a collaboration between the women of the self-help group, the community, and us to create a space rooted in the context and sensitive to the traditions while providing the comforts of modern-day living.

The photographs are of the works in progress.
