Khati, Uttrakhand

Khati is one of the last inhabited villages in the Pindari valley in the Kumaon region of Uttrakhand, surrounded by dense vegetation and the snow-capped Himalayas. With no direct motorable road access, the village is unperturbed by the noise. Khati has been frequented by the trekking community for over a century now.

Over the century, the community has survived working and living with their ecosystems, providing assistance to the visiting trekkers or tending their farms and animals. Their wisdom is translated and seen in how they live and thrive despite the hardships. The study involves finding and documenting such remote communities' traditional wisdom and building practices.
