Makkumath, Uttrakhand
A region nestled within the Himalayas, surrounded by rugged terrains, snow peaks, often swelling rivers, and an abundant green cover. People in the valley migrated centuries ago, carrying remnants of the past still present in some of the practices seen in the region. Traditionally, the buildings in the area directly responded to the context they were sitting in, but today, the structures face placelessness and loss of cultural and contextual identity.
The study involves finding and documenting the soon-to-be-lost building practices and skills to provide a base for future regional developments.
