The built environment is a direct response to the climate and geography of the region, the building material availability and the occupation of the user. Housing pattern of the western, southern and central regions have various differences, minute and yet have been a response to the context, occupation, climate, geography, community and material availability.
The central, western and southern parts of the Kutch being closer to the west have a hot and humid climate, thus the housing typology evolved around a courtyard. The northern parts being deserts has a hot and dry climate. Thus, one sees the small circular mud hutments or “bhoongas”.
