Encompassing the stories of the people and the region the buildings are a living unit. Breathing, evolving and engaging with people and context around. The buildings in the region have a common thread of material used in a similar pattern with multiple variation and permutations depending on the secondary and primary resources available. Bamboo is used in totality with pine in the Ziro valley or teak in the plains of Imphal, to the practice of a weaved bamboo wall plastered in mud in Assam. The short-lived nature of the building and the effects of the surrounding, some houses are built every few years or locations shifted due to rising water levels in some parts of Majuli. Buildings in the region are a direct representation of the nature and lifestyle of the people.
