Initially designed in 1975, the 45-year-old bungalow needed a facelift to incorporate the various lifestyle aspects for the family of a recently retired forces officer—a place to host family, friends, and guests transiting through Chandigarh.

This semi-load-bearing house's floor plan and volume reflected the trends of the time, with open large space plans and high ceilings.

Interestingly, we had access to many wooden boxes previously used by the family while shifting between postings. These were made of the best quality wood, and considering they were no longer of use, we made the best of it.

All the furniture and details were custom handcrafted to suit the large spaces, which eventually helped us achieve a soft, warm, and inviting feeling to the whole space. The wardrobe handles were made from repurposed wood, the original light fixtures were modified while additional lighting was provided.

The cast in-situ terrazzo floor, cellar, and bar unit compliment while also define the client’s evolving lifestyle in their living and dining space.

The study corner, an addition to the master bedroom is like an extension into the kitchen garden. With wooden flooring and waste plywood used to make the false ceiling of the space.

The lobby was the last space to be worked upon.  All the balance stone left over after finishing the rest of the house, was used to make a custom cast in-situ terrazzo flooring for the lobby. Decorated with a floor to ceiling bookshelf, the space transforms into the ideal location for a bibliophile to get cosy with a warm beverage and their favourite book. The library also adds up as a showcase of the different plaques and awards received during the professional tenure.
